Last Saturday, Mr. Walto and Mr. Theoclitus joined the troop in a hike at Watchung Reservation for a short hike. We also learned how to navigate with a compass and pacing, moving along specific compass bearings for certain length, without measuring it out. Scouts had to learn the length of their pacing and attempt to measure that way. We thank our leaders who coming out on such a cold day to lead this activity.

Last Saturday on January 2, 2021, Troop 59 welcomed its newest Eagle Scout, Tim Marshall. Unlike most previous times, Tim’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor. was held at The Saint Vincent De Paul Church in Stirling, in accordance with the social distancing guidelines. All of us here at Troop 59 congratulate Tim for his amazing achievement, acquired by only a small percentage of Scouts.

For the project required to acquire Eagle, Tim had worked with Father Richard Carton to lead the building of a concealing fence around the AC units next to the church, a welcome addition!
On March 2nd, Troop 59 celebrated their newest Eagle Scout, Tommy Garno. His project, was to replace, build, and stain new fences at the St. Vincent De Paul Church. It took him 3 days to do so. He received help from many scouts and adults. We are all congraulating him.
On Sunday, April 7th, Troop 59 came in third at the Berkeley aquatics Cardboard Boat Race, with our boat the “B.S.A Hopefully Doesn’t Sink.” There were five other boats. Thank you to Mr. Theoclitus and Mr. Gerecht for coaching us.
