Spring Court of Honor

On Wednesday, June 8th, Troop 59 will be having our Spring Court of Honor.

It will start at 7:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church.

All scouts and family members are invited, and there will be light refreshment served.

Please join us there!

PLC Meeting this Wednesday

This Wednesday night, October 15th, there will be a Patrol Leader Council meeting.   The Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant SPL, the Patrol Leaders and/or Assistant Patrol Leaders, as well as the Scribe, must attend this PLC.

Regular troop meetings will resume on October 22nd.

IMPORTANT Troop 59 Registration Information

Re-charter is that time when chartering organizations, such as the First Presbyterian Church, renew their sponsorship of scout troops for the coming calendar year; it is also the time when we, the troop, submit to the BSA our roster of active youth scouts and adult leaders, as well as submit payment to register each scout and leader in the scout program.

We are thankful for your ongoing support of scouting, and your recognition of the program benefits to your son. As evidenced by our troop’s recognition as a 2013 Journey to Excellence Silver Unit Award winner, as a Friends of Scouting Platinum Award winner, and of course by the continued growth in leadership, responsibility and skills as your son advances in rank, we strive to deliver a high-quality scouting program, and look forward to another great year of activities in 2015.

Troop 59 is happy to report that the cost of youth registration – which includes insurance coverage, council fees, and Boys’ Life magazine – has not increased for 2015 and will remain at $80.00 per scout for the coming year. The $33.00 cost of adult registration also remain unchanged. Payment by check, payable to “BSA Troop 59” is preferred.

We need to receive all registration payments by November 5, 2014, in order to have time to prepare and submit our troop roster to council by November 17th. Unfortunately, unless we receive your scout’s registration payment by the 5th, we will not be able to include him on our 2015 roster, and he will not be able to participate in troop activities after December 31st. It is our preference, of course, to renew registrations for all of our scouts, but it is important that we hear from you before we include your son on next year’s roster.

Fall Court of Honor – October 1, 2014

On Wednesday, October 1, 2014, Troop 59 will be holding its Fall Court of Honor.  This Court of Honor celebrates the achievements of the troop, including rank advancements and earned merit badges, since this past June.

A very special presentation is planned for this Court of Honor, and all scouts, family members and friends are invited to attend.  Scouts will wear full Class A uniforms, including sashes and pins.

The Court of Honor will start at 7:30 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church.  Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Troop 59 Information Night

Boy scout Troop 59 will be holding a Boy Scout Information Night on Wednesday, September 24th from 7:30 to 8:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Stirling, 158 Central Ave.

We discuss and plan activities and work on rank advancement and merit badges, motivating the scout to reach the Rank of Eagle Scout. We have been in Long Hill for 77 years and focus on scout activities. Our smaller sized troop allows us to focus on each boy’s development and provide unique opportunities in which he can participate.

Some of our recent adventures have included a 40 mile backpacking trek through the forests of the Adirondacks in upstate New York this past summer. This was followed up with our annual outing to Sabattis High Adventure Scout Camp.  Next summer we will be venturing out to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for 2 weeks for a backpacking trek in the high desert.

Sabattis Forms Reminder

All scouts/leaders joining Troop 59 to Sabattis camp and/or trek in July MUST return their completed forms by the Sabattis camp/trek review meeting, scheduled for June 18.

Due to instructions received from Patriots’ Path Council, the troop needs to schedule a pre-Sabattis review of all paperwork with Council several weeks before we arrive on July 19, so we absolutely cannot be waiting on completed forms to be received.

If you have not yet done so already, please complete all forms as required (including physician signature on Health and Medical form Parts C and B as necessary) and return them to the troop as soon as possible.
