Based on feedback we received in our Spring communications survey, the Troop 59 web site at http://troop59.com, has been relaunched. The site had previously been built using the Joomla content management system, but is now redesigned using WordPress, a popular blogging tool. By switching from Joomla to WordPress, the Troop 59 site better integrates with our Troop 59 Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/troop59.bsa.
Nearly all survey respondents indicated that email serves as their most favored means of communication from the troop, and many folks rated the troop web site as an important source of information about the goings-on within the troop, while others indicated that they would like to receive Troop 59 information through social media updates. With that in mind, we created our Facebook page to serve as an additional outlet for delivering troop information to interested subscribers, keeping in mind that Facebook accounts are only available to those 13 years of age and older.
While email will continue to serve as our primary means of communication among our troop stakeholders, and we will always post important updates to our website with information about troop activities and events, our troop Facebook page will also be updated automatically with the same info that is posted to the troop web site. In addition, scouts, parents, leaders and other Facebook users who choose to “like” our Facebook page will be able to automatically receive updates and other interesting information that we will share from a broader variety of scouting sources, and stay connected with Troop 59 on a variety of mobile devices.
We are always mindful to follow the BSA unit web site guidelines (available at http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Marketing/Resources/UnitWeb.aspx) as well as Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act guidelines (http://www.coppa.org/comply.htm.) We appreciate your feedback, and we thank you for supporting Troop 59!
